Thomas Anthony Devas was a British portrait painter who emerged from the influential Euston Road School, a group dedicated to exploring psychological realism and capturing nuanced emotion in their subjects. Born in Bromley, Kent, in 1911, he descended from a family steeped in textile manufacturing – his father, Thomas Gronow Devas, headed the Devas Routledge Textile Firm – providing him with both financial stability and exposure to artistic craftsmanship.
